Background: With availability of the internet in all hands, the information on any topic is widely available. It is easy to access and many journals are open access. Hence it is tempting to easily copy paste the material to save time and serves as short cut for various purpose. Objective: To study prevalence and factors for research misconduct among medical college faculties Methods: Cross sectional study was carried out in two medical colleges in 58 faculty members using self-administered questionnaire. Confidentiality was ensured. Questionnaire consisted of questions pertaining to self-declaration of committing research misconduct. Next part was related to their opinions on factors, action to be taken and prevention related to research misconduct. Results: 68.9% knew what is plagiarism but only 8.6% knew types of plagiarism. Prevalence of research misconduct as faculty was 62.1%, (plagiarism=41.4%, fabrication=18.9%, falsification=1.7%). Prevalence of research misconduct as postgraduate was 91.4% (plagiarism=63.8%, fabrication=25.9% and falsification=1.7%). Lack of facilities and lack of time was the major response leading to research misconduct in 25.9% and 24.1% respectively. Most common action suggested was removal of published article and disciplinary warning by 37.9% of responses each. 8.6% of responses said that it is not possible to prevent research misconduct. Majority of responses were in favor of training followed by increasing awareness i.e. 56.9% and 51.7% respectively for prevention of plagiarism. Conclusion: Commitment of research misconduct was very high in publications as faculty and still more in dissertations as postgraduates. Lack of awareness, time, facilities, resources were responsible factors. Training and increasing awareness were the suggested measures.

Background: The faculty of medical colleges have a greater responsibility in making the study methods of their subject innovative, interesting and participatory for the under graduate students. One such method is organizing seminars for the undergraduate students. Objective: To assess effectiveness of student seminars as a teaching learning method in the undergraduate medical curriculum. Methods: This study was conducted in the Department of Biochemistry, Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad on a group of 150 students. This study assesses the role of seminar as teaching-learning tool by recording the effectiveness and perception of medical students on seminars through a pre-test/post-test evaluation and questionnaire-based survey. Results: A highly significant improvement (p<0.001) was observed among the medical students after the seminar sessions based on pretest and posttest analysis. 85% of the students reported that they found the seminars to be an interesting method of gaining knowledge. 78% of them felt seminars could be a good associated T/L method along with didactic lectures. 88% felt they got to learn new things from their peers in the seminar group. All the students who presented were of the opinion that seminar improved their communication skills, learned to make a formal scientific presentation and gained self-confidence after presenting the seminar. Conclusion: Seminars can be used as effective teaching learning method in the medical curriculum for a better understanding and outcome among the medical students.

Marinesco-Sjogren syndrome (MSS) is a very rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized clinically by muscle weakness, mental retardation, cerebellar ataxia and cataracts. The most prominent neurological feature is the cerebellar ataxia with hypotonicity and mental retardation is apparent from infancy. Patients with MSS may be posted for surgery early in the age for cataract aspiration, which requires unique anesthetic considerations involving myopathy, hypotonicity, growth and mental retardation. Till now only one case report of anesthetic management in MSS has been reported by Kouichiro Minami et al. Here we report a case of MSS and its anesthetic management coming for cataract surgery.

Adnexal torsion is a common gynaecological cause of acute abdominal pain; however, isolated fallopian tube torsion without ovarian involvement is very rare. Lack of specific clinical symptoms and imaging features makes the preoperative diagnosis of this disease extremely difficult. We report a case of isolated torsion of haemorrhagic hydrosalpinx. This case was preoperatively diagnosed as right hydrosalpinx with left ovarian cyst and laparotomy was performed due to severe pain abdomen. The correct diagnosis of isolated fallopian tube torsion was made during the surgery. The tortuous fallopian tubes were gangrenous in this case therefore, salpingectomy was performed. Laparotomy finding and pathological examination suggested of necrotic haematosalpinx. Through our literature review and our previous experience, we conclude that explorative surgery is crucial for diagnosis and treatment of isolated fallopian tube torsion. We believe that salpingectomy is the best option for treating the isolated fallopian tube torsion, but further discussion and accumulation of evidence is required for decision regarding weather or not to preserve the affected fallopian tube.

Background: With increasing competition children today experience more stress and academic pressure which is harmful for the well-being of the children and can result in devastating life situations. Objective: To study and compare the prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress among high school adolescent children in public and private schools Methods: A cross sectional comparative study was carried out among high school adolescent children. 120 children from private schools and 259 children from public schools were studied. DASS questionnaire was used to assess the depression, anxiety and stress among the study subjects. The data was expressed as proportion, and mean values. Appropriate statistical tests were applied. Results: In public schools, the female’s proportion was more compared to males 58.3% vs. 42% respectively while in private schools, both sexes were equally distributed. In public schools’ majority of the children were in tenth class while in private schools’ majority were in the ninth class at the time of the study. the overall prevalence of depression in the children from the public schools was found to be only 5%, that of anxiety was 20.8% and that of stress was 15.8%. the overall prevalence of depression in children from private schools was found to be 1.9%, that of anxiety was 20.5% and that of stress was 20.1%. 19% resorted to TV watching, 8.4% used internet, 17.4% reported playing, 13% engaged themselves in music, 37% spent time with friends, and 6% said they were busy with some or the other hobbies to cope with the depression, anxiety and stress. The mean score of depression and anxiety was found to be similar in children from public and private schools. But the stress score was significantly higher in children from public schools i.e. 21.6 compared to children from private schools i.e. 16.9 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In both the school’s anxiety and stress were found to be more among study participants. Depression was observed to be in less. But if they have more anxiety and stress and if it not taken proper care at this point of time, it might get converted into a state of depression.

Antenatal care in rural population has been studied extensively in India. There is lack of data showing current awareness of weight gain during pregnancy in rural population of Solapur, Maharashtra, India. But the awareness about healthy weight gain during pregnancy in pregnant women is lacking. There is no study which has quantified the awareness about the same in pregnant women. Hence this study was planned to determine and assess the existing knowledge of healthy weight gain during pregnancy in the rural pregnant women. The study shows that only 16.55% of the subjects were aware of the healthy weight gain during pregnancy.

Background: Treatment of these proximal tibia fractures using minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) techniques may minimize soft tissue injuries and damage to vascular integrity of fracture fragments. Methods: This study was a hospital based prospective study centred in department of orthopaedics at GSL Medical College Rajahmundry, from December 2017 to May 2019 in which 20 patients with proximal tibia fractures. These patients were treated with locking compression plate (LCP). Results: The assessment of clinical outcome was made according to Rasmussen’s functional grading system. End results showed excellent outcome and out of 20 patients, 19 Patients (85%) showed radiological UNION Conclusion: Surgical management of proximal tibial fractures will give excellent anatomical reduction and rigid fixation to restore articular congruity, help to facilitate early mobilization and reducing post-traumatic osteoarthritis and hence to achieve optimal knee function. LCP remains a good choice in comminuted or more severe patterns of fractures.

Background: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is one of the most common brain tumors. Despite multimodal treatment with surgery and chemoradiotherapy, survival outcome remains bleak. Many patients do not tolerate and complete such aggressive treatment. Our Center is the largest tertiary care referral hospital in the region; we report our findings about 5-year outcome in these patients. Methods: From January 2014 to December 2018, we conducted a retrospective observational study. We included patients with histopathologically proven diagnosis of GBM. Descriptive statistics of patient data was retrieved from patient files at Hospital Based Cancer Registry (HBCR) at our State Cancer Institute (SCI). All the data was recorded and analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. Results: 54 histopathologically proven cases of GBM were enrolled. Most patients were in the fifth and sixth decade of life, with a male to female ratio of 2:1. Headache was the most common presenting symptom in 23 (42.5%) patients followed by seizures in 13 (24%) patients. The average lesion size was 4.7 cm. Gross total excision was done in 12 (22%) patients, near total excision in 8 (15%) patients. 48 (89%) patients received radiation therapy concurrent with temozolomide. 4 (7.4%) patients had complete response with chemoradiotherapy. Median survival was 16 months. Patients who underwent Gross total excision or near total excision had a median survival of 15.9±3.56 months, whereas patients who underwent subtotal excision had a median survival of 8.29±4.14 months. Patients who completed trimodality therapy had better survival. Conclusion: Patients receiving trimodality therapy with gross total excision and adjuvant chemoradiation achieve best survival rates. Advanced age, poor performance score, larger tumor size, deep seated lesions, suboptimal tumor excision, and steroid dependency carry poor prognosis.
